There’s something about B.C.
I’m back biking in B.C., Canada!!! The attractiveness of the landscape and the open minded people drew me back here. Now a month time to explore more of B.C. As always, I try to avoid the big crowded areas and find myself often biking on backroads/ loggingroads. This way of traveling makes it easy to get in contact with people and to find the most quiet and undiscovered places for camping.
I was especially curious about the Icefield Parkway. And for a good reason! The weather has been great (even too hot!) and the winding road in between the huge Rockies, the glaciers, the lakes and small creeks up to big rivers made me feel such a small person.
The moment I was back on my bike I felt the essence why I like it so much: moving forward in fresh air! Using my own power, feeling the elements of life. Before I got to the Icefield Parkway, I had to face thunder and lightning, a few passes (like Rogers pass), got up early to avoid the heat, biked some logging roads, did a few skinny dips and met other Canadian bikers.
In Jasper I met by incident Dutch bikers (Myke and Gerben), whom I met in Holland just before they left for their endless bike-and-work trip. We had a great reunion on the campsite.
After all this nice weather, thunder and lightning at my nephews birthday introduced a period of rain, leaving me wet to the bone on a 2-day hike in Park Mt. Robson.
Since biking went fairly easily (this is relative…) I decided to bike back to Seattle. This will give me the chance to visit Whidbey and Bainbridge Island and enter the big city easily by boat. Let’s go to the 2500 kilometer!!!
